Height
Chandeliers: Over dining and breakfast nook tables:
The bottom of the fixture to the floor should be between 5'2" to 5'6" (higher if more than 15' ceiling)
Foyers: Center your fixture in the window, or space above the door
The bottom of the fixture to the floor should be between 9'0" to 10'0" (higher if door is over 10')
Pendants: Over Islands and Bars
The bottom of the fixture to the floor should be between 5'6" to 6'6"
Size
The width of your fixture should be approximately 2/3rds the width of your table
How much light is needed?
For general lighting needs, figure at least 1watt per square foot minimum, not including task lighting needed.
